Debating
Junior Debate Club (also known as the Society of Young Debaters) was founded in 2016 and has grown in strength since it first began. We meet weekly to discuss issues varying from social media influencers, politics, women’s issues and climate change to who will win the Champion’s League! Weekly meetings are informal and are open to any student from 1st, 2nd or 3rd year, regardless of experience. We compete regularly in competitions such as the National Junior Mace Competition (National Finalists 2019 and 2018) as well as internal competitions and friendly debates organised with local schools.
Junior Debate Club runs every Thursday in room 215 at 11.50am and all are welcome, just come along!
Our senior debate team are equally as busy but meet on an ad-hoc basis when there is an upcoming competition. Senior debate team members also regularly help with the running of Junior Debate meetings. The senior debate team has been involved in Concern Debates, Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition (Leinster Finalists 2019) TCD Hist debates, UCD L & H debate and the Senior Mace Competition to name but a few. Any 4th , 5th or 6th year students who wish to get involved should see Ms. Moore.
German Debating
The school also has a German debating team which is run by Miss Farrell. Students debate current topics through German. Competitions take part during the year and if students have an interest they should speak to Miss Farrell.
