The Croí Centre in Coláiste Pobail Setanta first opened in October 2011. The centre comprises two classrooms, a multi-sensory room, a wellness room, a para-education room, a shower room, offices, a kitchen area and a multisensory garden. The centre has a co-ordinator and a range of subject teachers.
In Coláiste Pobail Setanta we recognise students learn in a variety of ways and need various learning environments. An ASD Class, depending on the student’s needs provides the necessary level of support required. Each class takes maximum 6 students. This allows teachers and Special Needs Assistants to work intensively with each student directly addressing specific needs and challenges to meet their educational requirements.
Inclusion is central to Coláiste Pobail Setanta. Therefore, Autistic students are offered dual enrolment which allows students to move between the Croí centre and mainstream classes wherever possible, thus fitting the inclusive nature of the college. The Croí Centre offers different educational plans, ranging from a continuation of what was being taught at primary level, learning for life and work skills, developing social skills to a more structured and subject-based curriculum. Students in the centre are offered a wide range of subjects and Levels which can be tailored to their specific needs.
Options include:
- QQI Level 2 Skills for Life Learning Program
- Level 2 Learning Programme
- Junior Cycle
- Transition Year
- Leaving Certificate Applied
- Leaving Certificate
We encourage reverse integration to bring peer social interaction opportunities to the students enrolled in the Croí Centre. It provides an invaluable setting for the promotion of age-appropriate behaviours and social skills that helps students meet their social goals. The program proves beneficial to all students involved.
