Semester 2 Week 9

A preview of all activities and information for Week 9 of semester 2
Semester 2 Week 9

Welcome back after the longest month since records began, happy belated St Bridget’s Day and at long last the 6 Nations has begun, Éire Abú.

Last week we had our Open Evening where we welcomed the families that want to join us here in CP Setanta for September 2021. It was a fabulous evening where our College looked amazing, huge thanks to our maintenance staff and all teachers and SNA’s who pulled out all the stops to ensure the evening went without a hitch. The displays in every classroom were interactive and interesting and best of all, our students were at the heart of every activity. Like so many events that happen in CP Setanta, our students are more than capable of leading from the front, this hasn’t happened by accident, its thanks to our whole school approach to AFL teaching methodologies that gives our students the confidence to be leaders. Our Prefects, Student Council, Mentors and others played a very important role as tour guides on the evening. Huge thanks to them and their teachers. Our PA provided the much needed refreshments on the night as they canvas for new members. We are lucky to have such an active and strong PA here in CP Setanta.

TY News

Last week our TY interviews took place with Mr. Kelly, Ms. Maguire and Ms. Leahy putting candidates through their paces. The standard was exceptionally high and with over 50 applicants for 48 places, it was a tough decision in the end to decide on the 2 candidates that would be on the waiting list. The offers have gone out and will be replies to this Monday. After that we will commence the Options Process for next year’s 5th years. Please encourage conversations with students about their subject choice for next year because there will be minimum movement once the decisions have been made. Its hard to believe but this is the start of next years’ timetable.

Last week saw SciFest in our College where students competed in the name of science with their projects of varying scientific disciplines. This competition goes from strength to strength every year thanks to the dedication of our Science Department. Huge thanks to Ms. Kelly, Ms. Breslin and Mr. Lowry for all their work. Keep an eye on the Colleges Twitter feed for pictures.

Our Mocks are well under way with our 6th Years taking their 1st English Paper on Friday. Huge thanks to Mr. McGuire for the trojan work he has undertaken to ensure the exams run without a hitch. TJ is piloting several new systems for exams in our College this year which may become the norm going forward. Best of luck to all our students as they do their best in the Mock Exams. The deadline for having all results and formative feedback on VS Ware is Thursday 5th of March. A heartfelt thank you to our Parents Association who help by becoming scribes and readers to our students who need this type of help in their exams also.

Options Evening.

Our College will welcome the parents of our incoming 1st Years this Thursday at 7pm to take part in an Options Presentation so that they can help their children to make the best decision for their subjects in 1st Year. This is a very informative evening for our community’s families. Wriggle, our supplier of students devices, will be available on the night also.

Strike Day

This Tuesday all classes have been suspended for H&S reasons due to the industrial dispute. Classes will resume for all on Wednesday 5th February.

Internet Safety Week

Hi All,

Internet Safety Week takes place the week of the 10-14th of Feb. As a College we are registered to participate.

We will be doing 2 things this week:

  1. HTML Heros: This is an online lesson bank designed for young teens (it says 4th and 5th class) but after looking at the content it is also relevant for our 1st and 2nd Years. All teachers who teach 1st and 2nd Years SPHEwill engage in these lessons that week. You will find the link below which includes a variety of lessons and all the resources are made and ready to go.

HTML Heroes

Report Illegal Content. Sometimes you might unwittingly stumble across illegal online content like child abuse imagery. Always remember: you can report it and get it removed using

  1. 1st and 2nd Year Slogan Competition: All first and second year tutor groups will take place in an internet safety slogan competition. Each tutor group will submit one slogan into the competition.

In all other lessons that week please promote internet safety in whatever way you can. Please tweet using the hashtag #SID to showcase the work that we are doing to promote safer internet use in our college.

The Wellbeing Theme for the week beginning 3/02/20 is ‘Self Care’.
