Semester 2 Week 3

Student Leadership News.

Unfortunately, this year we won’t be able to do the whole year group awards. We usually celebrate student achievements with a certificate of excellence cert in each subject/class. This is awarded to the student who has excelled in each subject. The student can be chosen for various reasons including participation in class, excellent homework, or achieving academically, etc.

This year the awards will be taking place in tutor groups. Tutors will give out the certs on Tues 22nd of December Students who received student of the year and sports awards in the summer will also receive their awards too.

Winter Connect Event.

Very proud of our students who got through to record their festive song today .We are looking forward to logging into the ‘Winter Connect’ event next Thursday 17th @10am to see Naomi Ibeh, Praise Akintokun, Sidney Vergueiro and Sean Mulvey preform. It will be a lovely event.

Digital Schools Validation.

Last week two and a half years work came together under the leadership of Michelle Allen so our College could achieve our Digital Schools Award. Our teachers, students and leadership were put through their paces to verify to the committee that we not only “talk the talk” when it comes to ICT and education but that we “walk the walk” also. Well done to the entire College Community for ensuring that our College achieved this recognition as we embark on the next ICT journey in Europe using the Selphie survey as our starting platform. Please ensure that you have completed this survey that Michelle circulated the week before last. The interviewer left us with a very insightful final comment that really sums up our approach to ICT in education, he said “”CPS is not awash with computers ,but where learning is enhanced by good digital technology”. That’s something to be very proud of.

Student Newsletter

Today sees the first edition of our new Student Newsletter and we are all looking forward to reading it and keeping up to date with all that’s happening in CP Setanta. Best of luck to the whole team involved.

Student Safety.

As more and more of our students are using their bikes to come to school, I am asking that we all encourage them to wear their helmets and to stay to bicycle lanes. Accidents happen all too easily and with dark mornings and evenings with everyone rushing to school and work, it is important that our students are reminded of the real risks and the need to be safe. Please wear helmets and Hi-Viz jackets at all times.

Multi-Cultural Festival

Our Student Council are working very hard with their teacher leaders, Laura Mullins, and Susan O’Donovan to bring us a Multi-Cultural Week and Fashion Show with a difference. Students will be involved in recording the fashion show event on Tuesday morning and we will all be able to watch it from our classrooms on the last day of school, December 22nd before we go home for the holidays at 11:00. Good luck to all involved.

VS Ware Deadlines

Next Monday, 21/12/2020 at 12:00 noon is the deadline for having all results uploaded to VS Ware as they are going live to parents at 13:00 that day.

Mock Exams

Please ensure you have communicated your department needs to Ruth Keane ASAP to ensure we get the scripts ordered before the holidays. We will be using the same methods that were engaged for the Semester 1 Exams, envelopes for the scripts, cover sheets for the envelopes, 72 hours before being collected from the Group Work Room etc. Please inform your 3rd and 6th Year students that they will all sit the Mock Exams but that only those who pay for them will receive results.

New Deputy Principal.

Welcome to Peter Whitty who has joined our staff as our new DP last week. We wish Peter every success as he takes up his role. Peter will be working closely with Ms. Galbraith and Ms. Moran as the DP to both the 2nd and 3rs Year Groups.

Accessibility

You will have noticed by now that our newsletter is in a yellow colour and that then font is in comic sans. It has been proven that documents that are in this format really help students and adults with dyslexia and other issues around reading and comprehending the written word. I’m asking that if you are creating word documents that are going to be emailed to your class and that your OneNote would reflect this so that all students can access the material equally.
