Semester One - Week Eight

Welcome back everybody after our midterm break. I hope that you made many wellbeing deposits in your wellbeing bank. There is a marked difference to the start of the second half of this term, compared top the first half and even though we are in stage 5 lockdown, there is a sense of us being in more control of the situation. Best of luck to everyone for the term ahead.

1st year team-building - 3/4 November 2020

With current restrictions and the current situation, our annual hike to Glendalough is not possible unfortunately 🙁

To this end, we wanted to give the first years a chance to have a team-building activity. Our solution is they will have tutor group sessions with a company called skipnrope 👍

www.skipnrope.com

We have organised for this to happen on Tuesday and Wednesday 3/4 November (after we return from midterm). Mr. Maguire has organised these to happen for each Rang while they had PE, unfortunately that only worked for 3 classes, apologies for disruption to other lessons. Please find the class schedule below. All the sessions will be taking place in the sports hall (Thank you to the PE dept. for again allowing us to use their space 🙂)

ICT in the College

A lot of work done over the midterm by Peter, Michelle, and Krista to ensure that any and all issues that we were experiencing over the past term are resolved. There should be no issue with connecting to the data projectors etc. now and if there is, please report this issue to our IT Department using the link on our website,

Covid-19 Protection Products in CPS.

During the break you will have heard of the product recall that occurred for sanitiser and soaps etc. Our LWR’s Mr. Sinnott and Ms. Corcoran were quick to act and have taken steps to reassure staff and students.

This is the email sent to all staff during the break.

Hi All,

Just wanted to update you quickly with the news about Sanitiser and certain suppliers being in the news.

Our main supplier is Lennox and only 1 of their items (hand soap) has been recalled. Fortunately, this is not a product that we use.

Our secondary supplier has been fully authorised to supply us with approved hand soap. We have been using this company for hand soap since we came back to school and there are no issues.

We have a third supplier of alcohol-free Sanitiser specifically for workshops and science labs. Glanta has not appeared on any of the recall lists.

All information here is correct to the best of my knowledge, but of course, if anything changes, I will do my best to let you all know as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

PJ

The following text was sent to all parents and guardians on Sunday to assure our students that all products in the College are safe.

Dear Colaiste Pobail, Setanta Community,
In the unlikely event that anyone was out of the country during mid-term, we would like to respectfully remind you of HSE regulations that stipulate 14 days self-isolation upon arrival home. Please see: Protocol for the management of air passengers considering Covid-19.

In recent News you may be aware that some sanitisation products were recalled for several reasons. In CP Setanta we do not use the products listed for recall and have ensured that all products used in the fight against the spread of covid-19 are safe and meet with HSE and Dept of Education and Skills guidelines. It is important to note that hand washing, mask wearing and respiratory etiquette continues to be key.

I am asking parents and guardians to ensure that your children have their full Hygiene Kit for school tomorrow and that you have a serious conversation around correct and safe behaviour both coming to and going home from school. The correct and safe behaviour that will help to prevent the spread of covid-19, wearing masks, staying 2 meters apart etc. Young people will abide by these rules in school under our supervision and we must do all we can to ensure they follow these rules while not under adult supervision.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse now and coats, jackets, hats, and scarves are needed. Please ensure that your sons/daughters are wearing proper weather protective clothing when they leave the house to prevent colds and flues, which have similar symptom to covid-19. College jackets with the crest or any Navy jacket/coat without insignia are allowed, all other colours of jacket/coat will be confiscated to be collected by parents.

Many thanks to all for your support.

Yours sincerely
Liam Walsh, Principal.

Id like to welcome Mr. Rigney to our staff today. Mr. Rigney takes over from Ms. M Moore, Business teacher, who is now on maternity leave. You are very welcome to our College, Mr. Rigney, and I am sure that you will be made to feel at home by both staff and students.
