Junior Cert News

Other Areas of Learning, OLA’s

As part of 3rd Year students Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement, students have the opportunity to document 'Other Areas of Learning', which they may have taken part in during the past three years here in the college. These can include social, cultural, pastoral, scientific, entrepreneurial, and other activities that support the 24 statements of learning and the 8 key skills of Junior Cycle. Students will be able to document between 1 and 3 'Other Areas of Learning' to be included on their Profile of Achievement. They will be working with their SPHE teachers on this over the coming weeks. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage discussions around these areas at home. For example, any awards achieved, exemplarily attendance records, extracurricular activities, or leadership initiatives they would like to include. Please note that the chosen area must refer to something linked to the college. Parental support on this is much appreciated. We will look forward to working with the students to demonstrate their 'Other Areas of Learning'.

College Expectations

There are three of areas that we need to bring to the attention of parents/guardians this week.

Students that go home for lunch are only permitted to go to their own homes for lunch. Students are not permitted to go to any of the local shops etc or to friends houses. Students that break this rule will face the consequences of level 4 on our Learning Code. I am asking parents to have a conversation with their children to ensure this college rule is adhered to.

All students must record their homework in their homework journal after every class and need to have their homework journals signed by their parent/guardian every night. This practice is to ensure parents/guardians are aware of the work that has been completed in school and the work that their children are expected to do for the next day.

We have completed our Child Safeguarding Statement and it has been ratified by our Board of Management and sent to our CEO. Please review our Child Safeguarding Statement, available from our website, link below. https://cpsetanta.ie/Content/2022/3/kd31-Child_Safeguarding_Statement_and_Risk_Assessment.pdf
