Semester 2 Week 2

TY YSI Non-Uniform Day in Aid of Friends of The Coombe

Friends of the Coombe.Freinds of Combe 2

Rang Tara are hosting a non-uniform day on the 17th of December. Students are encouraged to wear the Christmas Jumpers/clothes or the colours red & green (Mr. Ludden will be thrilled!)

The Money is being raised for the Charity Friends of The Coombe (a charity that looks after babies in need, premature babies, and their families). This is one of our fundraising events for our ‘Little Lives’ project.

The money well be collected at all school entrances. It would be great if everybody could pay the €2.00 to show their support.

Thank You,

Rang Tara

Student Devices

There has been a number of device confiscation the past 2 weeks. To try and prevent this, students must close their devices when they are not in use or not needed in that class.

Headphones are not allowed in class unless they are required for that lesson. They are not allowed in supervised classes unless the work that has been left by the teacher requires the students to listen to some resources.

The use of devises for games, YouTube, taking pictures etc without the teacher’s permission will result in the devise being confiscated.

Hopefully, this will help prevent any more confiscations.

Caring for our Carers Campaign

"As you head off for the weekend and maybe do a bit of festive shopping can you keep the Caring for our Carers Campaign in mind and pick up a little something to include in our Pamper Hampers for the hard-working staff at Connolly Hospital. Anything from candles to coffee or slippers and fluffy socks would be greatly appreciated!"

Remote Teaching Readiness

Dear Parent/Guardian

As the Covid-19 situation intensifies in our county, we are very aware that there may come a time where we may have to engage in remote teaching again.

With that in mind we are going to test our readiness on Monday 6th December, Tuesday 7th December, and Wednesday 8th December next week, by following the steps outlined below.

We have to be sure that our students are fully prepared to access TEAMS, OneNote, emails, and their OneDrive.

Please discuss this with your son/daughter and ensure that their school device is in good working order.

Remote Readiness:

On the following days, these year-groups will learn and attend class from home after lunch. Students will attend school for the morning classes and then remain at home after lunch. For students that do not go home for lunch because of travel restrictions, we will accommodate their remote learning in the school building.

Mon afternoon- 2nd Year & 6th Year

Tuesday afternoon- TY, LCA, 5th Year

Wednesday afternoon – 1st Year & 3rd Year & Croí

Remote Classes:

  • This will involve each year-group staying at home after lunch on the indicated day to access their lessons via teams.
  • Teachers would then teach via teams and follow their timetable for the afternoon.
  • Teachers will be on Teams for the full lesson, but will also be using a combination of Break Out Rooms and OneNote as is best practice.
  • This would test our readiness for remote teaching and learning and show what supports need to be put in place if we do have to use remote teaching this academic year.

The lessons learnt from this trial will be applied to all year groups to ensure we are all fully prepared.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Yours sincerely

Liam Walsh, Principal.

Market Day

This year Market Day will take place on Thursday 9/12/2021 in the Centre Courtyard where students will sell their products to staff and students from their outdoor stalls. Remember to come to school with money, coins preferably so that change will not be an issue, on that day.

Semester 1 Reports

The reports will go live to parents and guardians on Monday 20/12/2021.

1st Year Enrolment 2022 News

Following our random selection draw the appeals process is open to parents/guardians whose children did not gate a place in the first 210. The closing date for receipt of thenBOMR1 Form, available from our website (admissions section) is Monday 13/12/2021.

College Awareness Week

Huge thanks to our Guidance Department for organising our College Awareness Week. There were plenty of activities and outside speakers to give our students the moat up to date information available on 3rd level. This year there was an increased emphasis on apprentices as they are on the CAO home page for the first time.

Multicultural Festival

As you are aware, we here at Colaiste Pobail Setanta pride ourselves in the fact we have over 40 different nationalities in our college. Multicultural week is a really important date in our school calendar, and it is fast approaching.

The Student Council are working on the Multicultural Fashion Show which will be filmed on Tuesday the 7th  of December. We really want to make this the best it can be in the given circumstance where we cannot do a live show and it will need to be recorded.

Students are encouraged to wear the traditional dress of their country, give interviews on what it means to be Nigerian, Irish, Japanese, Indian, Chinese, to name but a few. We would also love students to volunteer to sing or dance, play an instrument etc for the recording to make it really fun and engaging. There will be incentives and prizes for anyone who gets involved, people who make the most effort, the junior and senior who win the talent section etc. It really would be nothing without the students and so we urge you all to get involved.

There is also going to be a poster competition with a 1st 2nd and 3rd prize for the best made posters to use as background decoration when we film the fashion show. The date to have this handed up will be the 3rd of December and please give to your tutor so they pass them onto Ms. Buckley in Kitchen 2.

We really look forward to seeing what you can do and how you can get involved, as I'm sure like most years the standard and level of talent in this school will blow us away.

Congratulations to our newly appointed Deputy Principal Ms. Keane as she takes over from Ms. Murphy for the rest of this year. We wish Ruth the very best of luck in her new role and we look forward to working with her as DP in Colaiste Pobail Setanta.

Congratulations to Ms. Confrey on her appointment as Year Head to 1st Year. Emma has been Assistant Year-Head to 5th Years, and we wish her the best of luck in her new role.
