Semester 2 Reports.

Our Semester 2 Reports have gone live to parents and guardian since Friday 19/3/21. All parents and guardians should have a conversation with their sons and daughters about the formative feedback from their teachers on the report. This type of engagement between parents and children is the piece that reaffirms what the teachers has said and brings the whole assessment and feedback cycle together.

Seachtain ne Gaeilge.

Huge thanks to our Irish Department for organising an amazing Seachtain ne Gaeilge. This year had to be a little different so that our students who are still engaged in remote learning could take part. Our College took part in Flag Day, 16/3/2021, for the first time when we raised our national flag in the courtyard. This event was attended by some of our 6th year students, the chair of our Board of Management, Howard Mahony and our Parents Association Representatives, Amanda Gribben and Sandra Cooke.

Staff Meeting

Thursday 25/3/2021 will see our classes end at 2:00 to facilitate a staff meeting. Students will be allowed to go home at 2:00.

Leaving Cert Oral Locations

The Leaving Cert Orals will take place on the dates specified in the table below. There will be some construction work taking place in CP Setanta during the first 3 to 4 days of the Easter Holidays and so the oral exams due to take place on those days will be held in Scoil Grainne. The principal of Scoil Grainne, Ms. McAuley has kindly given us permission to use her school At that time. Students will be made aware of the location of their exams this week.

Junior Cycle Reports.

This week our teachers will meet to discuss how then Junior Cycle Reports will be conducted so that our 3rd Year students will be able to engage in the process when they return on Monday 12/4/2021. There will be a parent/guardian declaration to be completed before students are permitted to return. This will be distributed to parents/guardian using the College App on Thursday 8/4/2021 for completion.

Child Safeguarding.

All students will engage in a child safeguarding lesson in their SPHE classes this week so that they are aware of the structures in place in our College. Students, staff, and parents will then be surveyed on our child safeguarding structures for feedback.

Graduations 2021.

We have made the decision that our graduations this year, 6th Year and Transition Year will be online events similar to how they were conducted last year. This is for public health safety reasons. Currently Ms. O’Grady, 6th Year Year-Head, is working on this event with teachers and students.

PE News

The steps have been counted, the results are in and we can announce the winners of the PE Departments Strava challenge from February.

The Junior Section was hotly contested with some massive scores accumulated by our eager walkers/runners and cyclists. Rangs Aodh, Naoise, Fiachra, Emer, Fergus, Muirise and Morrigan all totalled over 500km and made up the top 10. Rang Gluaire amassed an impressive 989km in their efforts to finish 3rd, while Rang Nessa breached the 1000km mark (with only 11 students!) to finish 2nd.

But the strength in numbers of Rang Dairbhreach was too much for the opposition as they powered to victory with 1070km and a brilliant contribution from over 20 of their students to win the half zip tops for their class. Massive congratulations to them and their PE teacher/tutor Mr. Lowry.

The Senior Section was a little slower to get moving but there were still some excellent efforts to be proud of. Rang Oisin managed to climb above the rest of the pack with 9 movers amassing 439km to leave Rang Airt trailing in 2nd place. Congratulations to Rang Oisin and Ms Patton on their win. We decided as a department to also reward some of the outstanding individual efforts in Senior with 6 students completing over 100km each and they will also receive a prize for their efforts. They are:

Colm Deery

Domhnall

Aoife O'Sullivan

Oisin

Rebecca Byrne

Cormac

Emma Kenny

Airt

Amy O'Leary

Conan

Joseph Raucu

Boru

Prizes will be organised by the PE teachers in the coming weeks. Well done to all who took part and Congratulations to our many winners.

Easter Holidays

We will break for our Easter Holidays on Friday 26/3/2021 and I hope that everyone will enjoy the well-deserved break. Our Junior students have been engaging in remote learning now for over 10 weeks and that is exhausting for parents, students, and teachers. When we get our holidays, it is important to remember to remain safe and restrict our movements inline with public health guidelines. If we do not, then we may not be able to open our schools and colleges after Easter.
