Maths Week, Monday 18th - Friday 22nd

Maths week is due to take place next week from Monday the 18th of October (week 7)✖️➗➖➕

Jokes

Mr. Ludden has kindly agreed to give us a well-deserved laugh each day by telling some maths jokes over the intercom. Students are invited to email him with their best maths jokes, and he will read out a selection each day. There will be a small prize for a joke of the day each day. Please remind your students in tutorial if possible.

Dingbats

There is a PowerPoint with some dingbats, which we would appreciate, if the tutors for junior classes would go through it with their classes during tutorial. The answers are included in the PowerPoint. It would be nice for merits to be awarded to students who get them correct, at the tutor's discretion of course.

Sudoku

We will be leaving copies of various sudoku puzzles in the senior cycle students tutorial rooms for them to complete during tutorial each morning.

There will also be sudoku for staff, you will find the puzzles on your tables next week.

Puzzles

Please find attached a link to some various puzzles that can be completed by all ages, which may be used in SPHE or wellbeing as a starter or finisher during the week.

Black History Week

Next week sees Black History Week being celebrated in our college. There are many exciting events and activities taking place over the week for both staff and students. Could all teachers please explain this to your students in classes this week.

Poster Competition:

This will be open to all students. The theme of the poster is to celebrate black culture. The deadline for this competition is Friday the morning of the 22nd. Please give the posters to either Ms. Baraut or Ms. Kelly. There will be a prize for the winner.

Please continue to use the PowerPoint shared at the start of the month from Aisha about Black History Week during SPHE, CSPE or Wellbeing next week.

Influential Black People:

Each day at 11am a student will speak over the intercom about an influential black person.

Student Kahoot:

There will be a student kahoot taking place period 5 on Thursday. If all teachers could please allow their students 5 minutes to complete this kahoot during this lesson it would be greatly appreciated. We will forward the link on the day.

Staff Kahoot:

There will be a staff kahoot for anyone who wants to participate, with the chance of winning yourself a tub of Celebrations. The deadline for this will be Friday 22nd at 12pm. Please see the following link for the staff kahoot:

Who Am I:

This activity will be for staff and students. Each day there will be a fact file on a famous black person, and you have to guess who this person is. The activity will be on the Black History Wall beside the library. Please take the time to read these as there will be some personal staff stories on the wall too.

Non-Uniform Day:
On Friday 22nd, there will be a non-uniform day where all staff and students are asked to wear all black in solidarity. It will be €2, and all proceeds will go towards the Irish Network Against Racism. Could teachers please remind their students about this throughout the week.

We really hope that you enjoy next week, and you learn something new from it.

Anti-bullying workshops.

Monica Rowe will facilitate her Anti-Bullying Workshops for 1st Years in the College as follows:

Tues Oct 19th- 4 x 1hr talks

Thurs Oct 21st- 3 x 1hr talks

Fri Oct 22nd- 2 x 1hr talks

She will speak with each 1st Year tutor group over the course of the three days.

School Uniform

As we approach midterm, the weather is starting to become more Autumnal with temperatures dropping and rain more likely. This will require all our students to start wearing their coats again. The College policy is very clear on what coats are permitted in school and what is not. Students must have a College coat with the crest and in the event that this coat is being repaired or laundered, a navy coat will act as a replacement. Coats of any other colour are not allowed and will be confiscated. Please ensure that your child leaves your house with the correct uniform on.

Mid Term Break

Our College will be closed for classes on Monday 25th October until Friday 29th October with classes commencing again on Monday 1st November. Halloween takes place during the mid-term break, and I must ask parents and students to be careful during Halloween celebrations where 1 minute of poor judgement could end in years of regret.

I would also like to express my appreciation to staff, parents and students who have ensured we have had a great start to the school year despite the restrictions we are all currently living with. Hopefully there will be some relaxing of restrictions shortly.

Have a lovely Midterm Break.
