Covid -19 Responsibilities.

Dear Parent/Guardians,

It has been brought to my attention that young people who are attending our College have been ignoring the warnings and advice of the government when it comes to the Covid-19 virus.

It has been reported to me that young people, teenagers, are meeting up in the evenings and congregating together in groups with little heed to the risk they are putting themselves or their families in.

It has been brought to my attention that they are not adhering to the 2-meter distance that must be respected between individuals and instead they are playing tag, hugging and holding hands.

This is unacceptable behaviour and is putting our whole community at risk.

The school has shown that it takes its responsibilities seriously by closing and delivering its curriculum to our students every day by ICT means.

Shops and other venues for social gathering are also taking their responsibilities very seriously.

Our students and parents/guardians must also take their responsibilities seriously by not allowing teenagers out of the house to socialise with others at any time. I know this is hard, but it is what is required to save lives.

Under no circumstances should children, teenagers, young people be allowed to leave the house to socialise with others, there are plenty of apps available for this. This may sound harsh but the consequences of not adhering to the very clear guidelines set down by our government and the HSE are too grave.

I’ve included a clip from todays Irish Times who have commented on this behaviour.

I know this is difficult, but we are all in this together and we must take these steps to keep ourselves, our families and friends safe. No young person wants to shoulder the responsibility for the illness or death of a family member because they did not obey the new physical distancing rules and we as the adults, have a responsibility to support them in this.

Please take care of yourselves and do not take unnecessary risks.

Liam Walsh, Principal.
