Croí Centre (ASD Unit)
The Croí Centre in Coláiste Pobail Setanta first opened in October 2012 with two First Year students. The centre comprises two classrooms with capacity for six students each, a multi-sensory room, a para-education room, offices and a kitchen area.
Students in the centre are taught a wide range of subjects as well as supplementary SPHE classes to develop social skills. Inclusion is central to the centre and in addition to students enrolling for a place in the centre they must also enrol for a place in a mainstream class which enables the students to be included in mainstream classes wherever possible, thus fitting the inclusive nature of the college. Reverse integration can also take place, for example a First Year pool league takes place twice a week at lunch-time in the centre.
The centre has a co-ordinator and a range of subject teachers who teach mainstream classes as well. As in mainstream classes, differentiation and the individual needs of students are central to teaching in the centre.
